Dayanna Obando, 12, was diagnosed with a rare type of eye tumor, an optic glioma, when she was only 2 years old. She came to the United States from her native Costa Rica and received radiation therapy at the treatment clinic of 21st Century Oncology in Fort Myers, FL before returning to Costa Rica. This sweet little girl quickly captured the hearts of everyone in the clinic. Unfortunately, over the years her condition worsened and she underwent a procedure on March 23 in Costa Rica where she had her eye removed.
A prosthesis can be made for Dayanna in Fort Myers at the Southwest Florida Prosthetics Clinic, but her family does not have the money to pay for the prosthesis or the trip. We are calling on our gracious supporters to please help Dayana get her new eye. We have created a special fund to allow Dayanna and her family to come to Florida and receive the much needed prosthesis. In addition to paying for the airline tickets and the prosthesis, it is our hope to raise enough money to send the family to Disney World and Give Kids the World before returning to Costa Rica. A generous donor has already agreed to provide housing at no cost to the family while in Fort Myers.
